St. Landry Parish voters must really want change ---- they ousted the incumbent mayor this weekend by a huge margin.
Grand Coteau Mayor, Gail Lark, will be leaving office after one term. Four years ago, Lark's campaign slogan was "Moving Grand Coteau into the Future", but the new mayor elect believes he may be able to do a better job.
Henry Pierre won with fifty-seven percent of the vote, beating incumbent Lark by more then thirty percent. Pierre says he wants to be visible in the community and work for the people of Grand Coteau.
Pierre served in the military for twenty- three years and also was in management at Wal-Mart for eighteen years.
He said, "the town isn't really in bad shape or anything, it's just that a lot of citizens had concerns and the concerns weren't addressed and that's why i feel that they wanted the change."
Pierre said one of his first goals is to clean up Grand Coteau by repairing bad roads and deteriorated buildings.
