More information on the crash in Lafayette that killed a 5-year old child. On Sunday July 21, 2013, at 4:53 PM Lafayette Parish Deputies received a call of fatal traffic crash in the 2100 block of Robley Drive.
Deputies discovered a two vehicle collision between a Dodge Pickup Truck and a Chevrolet Equinox (crossover type vehicle). Deputies say evidence at the scene indicates that the truck was heading south on Robley Drive from E. Broussard Road and the crossover vehicle was heading north on Robley Drive when for unknown reasons the driver of the crossover lost control and entered the path of the truck near the intersection of Longfellow Road. The truck hit the passenger side of the crossover vehicle.
The driver of the truck was taken to a local hospital with minor to moderate injuries she is described as a 53 year old female from Arkansas.
The crossover was driven by a 19 year old female; there were two passengers in that vehicle. The front seat passenger was a five year old female who was pronounced dead at the scene and one year old male who was in the rear passenger seat was taken to the hospital for serious to critical injuries the child is currently in stable condition. The driver of the crossover is in critical condition. Both children had safety harnesses on; the one year was in a child safety seat. At this time it is unclear if the drivers were utilizing safety harnesses.
Routine toxicology tests are being conducted on both drivers and accident re-constructionist were on the scene documenting the evidence Sunday evening.
The identities are being withheld pending notification of family members.
