Lafayette Police crime scene investigators are poring over a vehicle found this weekend in Iberville Parish. It belongs to a homicide victim, found shot in Lafayette on Saturday.
A Lafayette patrol officer found the body while doing his rounds at about two o'clock in the morning. Thomas Jolivette, 43, was discovered behind the Piggly Wiggly and Family Dollar shopping center on the corner of University and Cameron.
His vehicle was found abandoned and partially submerged in a coulee in Iberville Parish.
Major Blanchard the Iberville Parish Sheriff's Office said they are not opening a criminal investigation, unless more evidence is found in that parish. For the time-being, Lafayette Police handle the criminal investigation. Iberville has turned over the car. It was found on Hwy 77 over the weekend, about four miles North of the Grosse Tete Bridge. A Wildlife and Fisheries Agent, patrolling the area, saw the car.
KATC also learned today that Jolivette was shot once. The Police Department is waiting for the coroner's report for an exact cause of death.
Meanwhile, investigators with Lafayette Police have requested the public's assistance in locating a vehicle that was at or around the area where the victim's vehicle was located. The vehicle in question is described as an older model Buick or Oldsmobile painted white with a canary yellow top.
