New images of "persons of interest" issued following shooting on Bourbon Street

New Orleans officials have released new surveillance images of people they'd like to talk to following the mass shooting on Bourbon Street. According to New Orleans media outlets, the two men in the images may have critical information related to the shooting, which happened Sunday about 2:45 a.m. in the 700 block of Bourbon Street. Nine people were injured, and 21-year-old Brittany Thomas was killed.

Anyone with information on the identity or whereabouts of the two people should call NOPD homicide detectives at 504-658-5300 or anonymously at Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.

In the meantime, Louisiana State Police Col. Mike Edmonson says Gov. Bobby Jindal has signed off on a plan to re-deploy 50 state troopers and public safety officers to help with law enforcement in New Orleans. Edmonson told The Associated Press on Thursday that the contingent has been assigned to work with the New Orleans Police Department in whatever capacity they're needed. Edmonson says the extra uniformed presence will be in the city for the July 4th weekend to help with the Essence Festival and will stay through Labor Day. Mayor Mitch Landrieu had asked for the assignment of 100 permanent troopers. Landrieu thanked Edmonson for the additional support, calling it a "step in the right direction."
