The New Iberia City Council will discuss at Tuesday night's meeting allowing food trucks to operate in the city. As we reported on April 23, food truck vendors say several city policies, including a $350 yearly permit and an ordinance that limits the hours street vendors can operate, make operating in New Iberia impractical. Councilwoman Natalie Lopez-Robin says the council will hear from residents and food truck operators on the issue. She adds she will meet with downtown merchants after the meeting to get their opinion on the matter.
The agenda item is only a discussion item, meaning no action will be taken on food trucks during the meeting. Lopez-Robin says her goal is to have a food truck ordinance in place by the end of the summer.
