A New Iberia man is dead after he was struck and killed by an 18-wheeler. Saturday night, troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop I investigated a fatal crash on US Highway 90 near Neco Town Road.
According to investigating Troopers, on September 29, 2012, at 8:45 p.m., 57-year-old Ray Hebert of Chauvin was driving a 2005 Freightliner tractor-trailer west on US Highway 90. A pedestrian, 67-year-old Amos Johnson of New Iberia was crossing US Highway 90 from south to north when he was struck by Hebert's vehicle. Johnson was pronounced dead by the Iberia Parish Coroner. Hebert, who was properly restrained, was not injured.
Troopers say it is unknown if impairment was a factor in this crash; however, routine toxicology samples have been obtained and will submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
This crash remains under investigation.
