A New Iberia man is killed crossing the street in Lafayette. It happened on October 11, 2010, at approximately 7:00 pm.
Lafayette Police responded to the intersection of Johnston Street and Stewart Street. According to traffic investigators, a gray Chevrolet pickup truck was traveling east on Johnston Street when for unknown reasons a pedestrian stepped into the path of the vehicle.
The pedestrian was struck and thrown to the south side shoulder of the roadway. The victim was transported to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead. The driver of the truck was not injured.
The pedestrian has been identified as David James Touchet, 46, of New Iberia. The crash remains under investigation by the Lafayette Police Department Traffic Section.
