New Iberia Man Dies in Rig Accident

A New Iberia drill worker died while working in Iberville Parish. Skye Sonnier, 30, was killed while working on a barge in the Grand River Dykes area, west of Plaquimine.
It took deputies and fire fighters over 6-hours to remove Sonnier's body. Deputies say the accident left Sonnier pinned between the rig and a mud tank.
Officials say the crews needed to cut through a steel tool box that had also fallen on Sonnier when the rig fell over.
Five other drill workers were able to escape the scene unharmed.
Estis Well Service would not comment on the incident.
