IBERIA PARISH- Yesterday, Detectives with Louisiana State Police, assisted by Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office, arrested a New Iberia man for distribution of child pornography.
According to police, earlier this month, Detectives received information which indicated that 60-year-old Paul Smith of New Iberia, was possibly in possession of, and distributing, child pornography. Through the course investigation, Detectives were able to obtain information which showed Smith was in possession of, and distributing, child pornography. Based on all the information, Detectives were able to obtain a search warrant for Smith's home.
According to police, last week, detectives served the search warrant at Smith's home and seized several digital media storage devices. During a preliminary search of the devices, Detectives located several movies which depicted child pornography.
An arrest warrant was issued, and yesterday, he was arrested for possession of child pornography and distribution of child pornography. Smith was booked into the Iberia Parish Jail without incident.
This case remains under investigation.
This case was part of "Operation Child Watch." The mission of "Operation Child Watch" is to rescue children from the potential abuse of child predators who prey on the innocence of a child. Louisiana State Police will continue to work closely with other law enforcement agencies to locate and arrest these individuals.
