A 100-year-old building in downtown New Iberia caught fire Monday night, forcing owners to tear it down.
The destruction of the Aurora Masonic Lodge caused the city to close Main Street for the better part of Tuesday as crews began tearing the structure down just after 10:00PM. Minutes later, the once historic building became rubble.
The building was on pace to be accepted into the National Registry of Historic Buildings- but Monday night's fire proved to be too much for the structure and turned it into a hazard.
