The mayor of New Iberia has approved the civil service board's recommendation to suspend the city's fire chief.
According to Mayor Hilda Curry, Chief Ronald Bourque will be suspended without pay from November 4 through November 8. The civil service board recommended the suspension after Bourque allegedly dodged a subpoena for a civil service hearing.
Curry says Bourque can and will appeal the suspension. Curry adds that Bourque will be allowed to serve if his appeal is not heard by the time his suspension date arrives.
KATC reached out to Bourque, but he was unavailable at the time for comment.
