New Iberia business burglarized

An 18-year-old and a 16-year-old are accused of burglarizing a department store early Wednesday morning.

According to Sheriff Louis Ackal, deputies with the Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office (IPSO) responded to Roses Department Store located at 1150 W. Admiral Doyle in reference to a burglary. Upon arrival, deputies observed a broken window at the business and an individual standing outside of the business wearing black pants, a black hooded sweatshirt and had a white piece of material concealing the person's face, state Ackal. As deputies approached the individual, the person allegedly fled on foot. Deputies captured the suspect not far from the business. The suspect was identified by deputies as a 16 year old male. Deputies advised they had information that a second suspect was possibly still in the business. After a thorough search of the business, no suspect was located, according to Sheriff Ackal.

The juvenile suspect was then taken to patrol headquarters where detectives learned the identity of the second suspect. Tyron Mitchell was then located at his residence and taken into custody. Deputies charged Mitchell with simple burglary and contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile. The juvenile suspect was charged with simple burglary, resisting by flight and possession of burglary tools. Mitchell was then booked into the Iberia Parish Jail.
