Ashley Broussard's parent, Charolette and Clarence Broussard were driving the vehicle hauling the trailer. Sh first got word of the accident Wednesday night around 6:30.
"My brother called and said hurry up and come to my house." she said. "I rushed over there and that's when they told me my parents had been in a bad car accident."
Officials said the driver who caused the accident, crossed the lines and smashed into the Broussards vehicle and trailer. One of the horses died upon impact, the other two were barely hanging on. Ashley had to give the okay to euthanize Thelma.
"In a way I wanted to keep her," she said. "But I didn't want to see her suffer and I knew it was going to be rough on her."
After the accident, only half of the trailer was left. Officials said all three were rushed to the hospital. Boutte is in critical, but stable condition.
Ashley said it's too bad the accident had to happen and her family hopes Boutte fully recovers.
