The holiday spirit can be found throughout Lafayette with Christmas lights and decorations going up in every neighborhood. There's now a new high-tech tool to help you find the most festive homes.
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas across Acadiana...Just like most families Jaci Russo hits the streets with her kids to find the most decked out houses in Lafayette.
Russo says, "It comes down to I wanted to know where all the Christmas decorations were. So, this seemed like a great way to get people to tell us who decorated."
So Russo partnered up with others to create lafayettelights.com where you can upload pictures of your display and others can map out their tour of holiday houses.
Russo says, "We've got this interactive map that highlights all the people who have decorated."
The twinkle of the lights may capture your eye as you're driving by as these neighbors go all out with their Christmas lights, and some even partake in some friendly competition.
"When you look at the map you know there's a little rivalry going on." John Karam says, "It's almost like Christmas wars in the neighborhood. It's all fun and games and we all enjoy doing it cause it just makes us want to do more and get bigger and better every year."
And competitive it should be as bragging rights are on the line. People can go to the website and cast their vote for the best, brightest, and even tackiest houses.
Dee Lutgring says, "It gets you in the christmas spirit and you see people passing by and stopping and seeing your lights, so you know you're appreciated for it." Karam say, "Buy lights and just get creative. Don't be scared to do it...it's not hard and its fun and a good family experience."
An experience that has the city shining this holiday season.
