State officials say the Fort Buhlow (BYOO-low) Bridge connecting Alexandria and Pineville won't be finished this year as had been planned. And it likely won't be next year either.
Steve Buskie, project coordinator for the state Department of Transportation and Development, tells The Town Talk the opening of the bridge, which will replace the O.K. Allen Bridge, now is projected for January or February 2016.
Construction on the new bridge began in January 2011 and originally was scheduled to take about three years. The projected completion date later was changed to the summer of 2014, which is still listed on DOTD's website, but the geography of the land under the Red River had other ideas.
Buskie says they ran into some very hard clays on the Pineville side.
