New fire board to meet in Houma

HOUMA, La. (AP) - The new Bayou Cane Fire District board is expected to approve a budget when it holds its first meeting on Monday night in Houma.
The Courier reports the board was appointed by the Terrebonne Parish Council in January. It oversees a department that protects 27,000 people.
The fire department has been plagued with internal feuding. Three board members resigned in recent months, citing a conflict that pitted some firefighters and former Fire Chief Jerry Gautreaux's family against the administration of current Chief Charles Long.
Critics attacked Long's spending practices and management as well as his leadership style.
