New details on how St. Mary Parish inmates escaped jail

The inmates who escaped from the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center in Centerville were caught in Lafayette. According to St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office Public Information Officer Traci Landry, Lafayette Police found Christopher Horton and Joshua Folks near railroad tracks while responding to a trespassing complaint. They were re-arrested without incident.

Deputies in St. Mary say the pair escaped by making their way into the ceiling of the facility and through the roof of the jail before making their way down a wall at approximately 10:30 pm Sunday. Deputies discovered they were missing around 4:00 a.m. on Monday.

Deputies say they immediately put the jail on lockdown and searched the facility and grounds. After not finding them in the surrounding woods, a BOLO alert was issued to area agencies, the inmates were listed as escapees with the National Crime Information Center, schools were notified, and the parish's First Call emergency system was implemented.

Horton and Folks are charged on warrants for simple escape and criminal damage to property.
