Daniel Edgar is the owner of St.Mary Seafood. He says since the oil spill, business has been slow. "It was chaos, so many of our customers were looking for a new market because they didn't think Louisiana seafood would be any good," said Edgar.
Stan McGee with Acadiana Regional Development says a new grant program called "National Emergency Grant" could help hard hit businesses like Edgar's. "We help them find jobs, offer training and provide loans," said McGee.
The U.S. Department of Labor awarded the grant program with hopes to give back jobs to the unemployed fishermen and rebuild bigger and better business than what the crude disaster destroyed.
