BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - The chancellor of Delgado Community College in New Orleans has been selected as Louisiana's new community college system leader.
The governing board for the Louisiana Community and Technical College System voted 9-3 Wednesday to name Monty Sullivan system president.
Contract negotiations were set to begin quickly, with Sullivan expected to start his new job on Feb. 27.
Before leading Delgado, Sullivan was LCTCS' executive vice president.
He was among four finalists for the system president's position.
The LCTCS Board of Supervisors met in executive session four nearly three hours before the vote. After the split vote, the full board unanimously agreed to a statement of support for Sullivan in the president's job.
Sullivan will succeed Joe May, who is leaving to become chancellor of the Dallas County Community College District.
