PATRICK J. BATISTE was arrested by Lafayette City Marshal Deputies in the 100 block of Lincoln Street. Deputies responded to a disturbance in progress involving a male subject with a gun. On arriving at the location deputies observed a male subject identified as PATRICK BATISTE standing in the yard waiving his hands in an aggressive manner. No knowing if Mr. Batiste was the subject with the gun, he was ordered by the deputies to place in hands on the car and was patted down for weapons. As deputies began the pat down, Mr. Batiste began to resist the deputies and after a brief struggle deputies were able to place Mr. Batiste in handcuffs. As a deputy began to pat down Mr. Batiste, he felt the handle of a pistol in the rear right pocket of Mr. Batiste. Lafayette city police officers arrived on the scene and they were given the weapon to secure it. In completing the search of BATISTE'S person, deputies found a bag of crack cocaine (13) grams; marijuana (4.3) grams and $2,126.00 in United States Currency.
MR. BATISTE complained to deputies that he was having chest pains and that he recently had a hear attack. An ambulance was called and he was taken to UMC for medical attention.
MR. BATISTE'S criminal record dates back to 1994, having been arrested 25 times. He was charged in 2008 with a firearms violation with drugs. On October 2, 2009 in addition to drug charges he was booked for attempted murder of a police officer.
He was booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on new charges of POSSESSION OF CRACK COCAINE WITH INTENT TO DISTRIBUTE; 3RD OFFENSE POSSESSION OF MARIJUANA; ILLEGAL CARRYING OF WEAPONS BY A CONVICTED FELON; ILLEGAL CARRYING OF WEAPONS IN THE PRESENCE OF CONTROLLED OF DANGEROUS SUBSTANCES; TRANSACTIONS INVOLVING DRUG PROCEEDS and RESISTING AN OFFICER. Bonds were sent at $63,500.00. Forfeiture proceeding will be filed to confiscate the monies and the firearm.
