New arrest in 2007 Bienville 'freezer' homicide

ARCADIA, La. (AP) - Bienville Parish sheriff's investigators have made a new arrest in the 2007 death of an Arcadia teenager whose body was found stuffed inside a discarded freezer.

Sheriff John Ballance tells The Times 26-year-old Channing Gray, of Jonesboro, has been booked with first-degree murder in the Feb. 10, 2007, death of 19-year-old DeRossceus Abney. An autopsy found Abney had been shot at least once in the head.

The sheriff described the investigation six years ago into Abney's death as a puzzle that always had missing pieces. Balance said Gray plugged one of those holes weeks ago when physical evidence connected him to the homicide.

The first suspect arrested in the slaying, 19-year-old Ronnie J. Brooks Jr., was acquitted of second-degree murder in 2008.
