An 18-million dollar state park sitting vacant in Vermilion Parish will open to the public. Lt. Governor Scott Angelle made the announcement this morning.
Palmetto State Park was scheduled to open earlier this year after seven years of construction, but due to budget cuts there was no money to open or run it. Back in June, Abbeville officials told KATC $1.3 million was needed to hire 16 workers.
The 1,200 acres park includes a splash pad, 95 RV spaces and five newly constructed cabins on the Vermilion River.
The park will officially open October 28. They will start taking reservations October 20th. For more information call 877-226-7652.
The park is located 10 miles south of Abbeville on Highway 82 between Abbeville and Intracoastal City. The address is 19501 Pleasant Road in Abbeville.
