Never before released letters; Congressman brings up issue of UL Lafayette's LGBT minor again

Congressman Jeff Landry is continuing his call to terminate the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) minor at UL Lafayette. And his is willing to assist in in the removal.

In a July 19th letter to ULL President Joseph Savoie, Landry requested information to determine if federal requirements tie the University's hands in discontinuing the minor. He later said he would "do everything in my power to either repeal these requirements or secure a waiver for the University."

A week later, President Savoie responded, "your allowance of political pressure to implement this program not only jeopardizes the integrity of our university, but it also jeopardizes the access to courses our students need to compete in today's economy."

Landry called Savoie's response an "attempt to turn the program into a political soap box."

Landry now pleads for ULL to "put our people over politics and end the LGBT minor."
