Tuesday morning a Chevrolet Impala was stolen from the driveway of a home on West Bayou Parkway, in the Greenbriar Neighborhood.
Police say someone entered the home and grabbed the keys off the kitchen counter all while the homeowner slept inside.
The person apparently entered the home through an unlocked door in the backyard and didn't take anything but the car keys.
We talked with the victim who didn't want to go on camera, but says he feels fortunate only the car was taken.
That car was found in Florida Wednesday and police say escaped inmate Shawn Alick Jollivette was driving it.
It's unclear if he was the one who stole it from the Lafayette home.
Neighbors are stunned by this newest twist in the case.
"We have such high traffic on the street that you just kinda think nobody will mess with your stuff."
Robbie Louque and a neighbor on West Bayou Parkway says it's scary so close to home.
"I'm really glad it wasn't my house, however, it was very close to my house."
"Yeah I am, certainly glad it wasn't me. I'm sorry for the people it did happen to, but I'm glad it wasn't me," says fellow neighbor Judy Elliott.
Both women say they'll continue to be vigilant about locking doors and checking their surroundings.
Jollivete is still in the Escambia County Jail waiting to be extradited back to Louisiana. He's charged with simple escape.
