The Notre Dame High School of Acadia Parish recognizes Coach Matt McClure as the 2012-2013 Notre Dame Teacher of the Year.
A native of Jonesville, LA, Coach McClure graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental Science from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in 2006. He returned to his Alma Mater, Block High School, in 2007, where he began his teaching/coaching career. As head varsity basketball coach, Coach McClure was named Coach of the Year in District 3 1A. In 2008 he moved on to Archbishop Shaw High School in Marrero as a teacher/coach. In 2009 Coach McClure joined us as a valued teacher in the Science Department. He has been a PIONEER and has called Notre Dame "home" since then.
In addition to his Physical Science classes, Coach McClure is Science Department Chair. He coaches linebackers on the football team, distance and middle distance runners on the track team, keeps the clock at most basketball games and he officiates rugby games ... all the while preparing lesson plans and implementing them on a daily basis.
Student comments about Coach McClure include:
"Coach McClure is a great teacher because he is extremely organized, very resourceful and he is always willing to help us."

"Chemistry was much easier because of what we learned as freshmen in Coach McClure's Physical Science class."
"Coach McClure is a teacher, first .... And a coach, second ..."
Principal Cindy Istre commends Coach McClure in the following manner: "Since Matt McClure first stepped on our campus for a job interview, I have been impressed by him. His professional demeanor, his work ethic, his willingness to take direction, his quest for growth and professional development, and his commitment to the vocation of Catholic education make him an outstanding member of our faculty. He does an exceptional job as both teacher and coach; exemplifying the qualities of integrity, humility and dedication. I thoroughly enjoy working alongside Coach McClure and am grateful to him sharing his gifts with the faculty and students of Notre Dame High School."
