MONROE, La. (AP) - Richland Parish Sheriff Charles McDonald says three men working on natural gas lines were injured when a line ruptured.
McDonald told The News-Star that none of the injuries appeared life-threatening: One man had abdominal pain, one had shoulder pain and the third had hearing trouble.
McDonald said mechanical equipment failure caused the line to break Friday morning in a field between Archibald and Rayville. He said cutoff valves were shut and the gas dispersed without igniting.
The sheriff's department shut down the stretch of highway between Archibald and Rayville for a few hours until the Department of Environmental Equality tested and approved the region's air quality.
