BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - A national faculty advocacy organization is asking LSU to undo the planned layoffs of 14 foreign language instructors.
The American Association of University Professors wrote LSU Chancellor Michael Martin last week to complain about the treatment of the so-called "Foreign Language 14," who are losing their jobs in two months.
The faculty members were among more than 200 instructors issued 12-month termination notices in January because of ongoing state budget cuts to higher education.
But they were the only 14 whose jobs were not extended at least through summer 2011.
In an interview Monday, Martin said LSU followed its own tenure and termination guidelines.
