On December 15, 2011 shortly before midnight, the St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office Narcotic's Criminal Interdiction Unit conducted a traffic stop on a 2010 Nissan Sentra on Interstate 10 mile marker 114 Westbound.
The car was stopped for Improper Lane Usage and Following Too Close. The driver and registered owner of the vehicle, Edith Gonzalez, 41, Pasadena Texas, stated that she was en route to Houston Texas from Baton Rouge Louisiana.
A canine officer alerted on the vehicle. A search of the vehicle was conducted and disclosed $84,170.00 dollars in U.S. Currency. Gonzalez disavowed ownership of the currency. The currency was seized and she was released pending further investigation after receiving citations on the above charges.
