NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A shift if part of the Riverfront Streetcar track because of the extreme heat has officials only allowing streetcars to run along one track.
The Times-Picayune reported on Sunday that Patrice Bell Mercadel, spokeswoman for the Regional Transit Authority, says construction on the track will begin Monday, but Mercadel said she's unsure when the track will be up and running again.
Of the three streetcar lines, the Riverfront line has the smallest average number of passengers, Mercadel says.
A streetcar conductor reported a problem with the track Saturday afternoon, and an RTA maintenance team confirmed that the heat had caused the track to shift, Mercadel said.
