NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A New Orleans police officer has been arrested on suspicion of writing bogus traffic tickets to collect extra pay.
Officer Glen Gross was arrested Thursday and booked on charges of "injuring public records" and malfeasance in office.
Gross is accused of writing 215 traffic tickets for seat-belt violations by non-existent drivers. Police said he started writing the fake tickets in June to justify overtime pay.
Gross, a 22-year department veteran, has been suspended without pay.
Police said the department launched an internal investigation after a supervisor reported suspicions about Gross' conduct.
