NEW ORLEANS (AP) - The New Orleans Museum of Art will display Hindu deities in bronze in an exhibit called "The Elegant Image" from Aug. 5 to Oct. 23.
The exhibition, believed to span 15 centuries of the Indian subcontinent, will show over 100 sculptures.
Rajan Zed, who is president of Universal Society of Hinduism, said in a statement Monday that art had a long and rich tradition in Hinduism and ancient Sanskrit literature talked about religious paintings of deities on wood or cloth.
Hinduism is the oldest and third largest religion in the world with about one billion adherents.
