Ready to get scared into the Halloween spirit? Tonight at 7, the Museum of Fear opens at the Lafayette Science Museum.
The third floor of the museum is unrecognizable the 10,000 square foot space has been tranformed into a scene from a horror movie.
"There may be other things around but trust me when I tell you, you can not hold a candle to what we have here," said the museum's Executive Director Kevin Krantz. "When you leave here you will be changed."
Entering the Museum of Fear seems harmless, but suddenly you are immursed in a dark, scary world complete with moving animatronics and plenty of suprises.
"The new spots are just truly horrific. They're extremely gory, extremely graphic and I mean no holds barred. I mean we've gone all out on this thing," said Krantz. "We've got the sights, the sounds, the smells, the actors, the fog, I mean you name it we've got it."
The haunted house is not for the faint of heart and parental discretion is definitely advised. The museum has been working tirelessly to make this the scariest year ever.
"We've been working on this year round since last Novemeber," said Krantz. "We actually started building in April, and we're finishing up today, right when we're about to start, so it's down to the wire. It's always down to the wire."
The event is the largest fundraiser for the science museum. It benefits their exhibits and educational programs. So grab all your friends and get ready for the fright of a lifetime. Admission $8. It will remain open from 7-11 every Friday and Saturday night through Halloween. Museum officials expect more than 10,000 people at this year's event.
An addition this year is a "Zombie Walk" through Downtown Lafayette October 27th. At 5:00 pm, Downtown Lafayette's first annual ZombieWalk celebrates the 2012 season finale of MUSEUM OF FEAR! The zombie parade marches down Jefferson Street ending at Parc Sans Souci for an after-party and costume contest. Planet Radio and Schilling Distributors will provide the party until MUSEUM OF FEAR opens its doors for its final night of the 2012 season. Participating in ZombieWalk is completely free...or watch in wonder and amusement as Downtown Lafayette is overrun by the "living dead".
