Multi Chem Evacuees

Since the explosion at Multi Chem in New Iberia, some residents living within a mile of the plant have evacuated to Cyr Gates Community Center.
Red Cross volunteers say about ten people have evacuated to the center.
Some evacuees say they only live a block or two away from the chemical plant.
One woman says her home is so close, when the explosion happened she thought it was a bomb.
"It was like a big boom! It was very scary, " said Brenda Clement.
Red Cross Volunteers say because of the low turnout of evacuees the Cyr Gates Community Center may remain a staging center.
