Multi-Agency Investigation Yields Numerous Drug Arrests in SW La

An investigation initiated last summer has led to the arrest of twenty-four (24) individuals on drug related charges. Investigators assigned to the Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations (LSP BOI), Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office (CPSO), Lake Charles Police Department (LCPD), ICE Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and the Calcasieu Parish District Attorney's Office joined forces and launched an intensive investigation into illegal narcotics activity in and around Lake Charles.

The operation was titled "Operation 27" in light of the fact that one of the principal suspects, 36-year-old Norvell Harris of Iowa has been arrested on 26 previous occasions. Harris is believed to be the largest street level drug distributor in the Lake Charles area.

Investigators determined the alleged principal supplier of cocaine in the Lake Charles area is 39-year-old Hayward Lecompte of Lake Charles. Police say Lecompte is believed to be the largest drug wholesaler in Lake Charles.

Police say the investigation revealed an additional source of large quantities of cocaine being smuggled into Southwest Louisiana from the Southeast Texas region which will result in the arrests of additional individuals.

Approximately 150 law enforcement officers served search warrants at 14 different locations in Lake Charles this morning within an hour without injury to suspects or law enforcement. In addition to the police agencies listed above, agents with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries assisted with the raids conducted this morning.
