MANDEVILLE, La. (AP) - Mandeville police say a 34-year-old
motorcyclist from Florida died when he hit an on-ramp side wall, throwing 135 feet away and 50 to 60 feet down.
Police Capt. Ron Ruple tells The Times-Picayune that Seth Garcia of Cocoa died about 2:30 a.m. Christmas Day.
He says that Garcia's Suzuki smashed twice into the side wall of the ramp onto the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway. He says the second time, Garcia was thrown from his motorcycle.
Ruple estimates that Garcia was driving about 65 mph on a ramp where the speed limit is 35 mph.
He says Garcia was conscious and able to speak with rescue workers, but died about five hours later at LSU Trauma Center in New Orleans.
