Broussard Police are investigating a major vehicle crash involving a motorcycle in the 200 block of N. Bernard Road.
Officers say when they arrived on scene a blue 2008 Suzuki GSX sport motorcycle was in the ditch along the east side of the roadway and a 2001 Volvo tractor trailer, was in the private drive of the business.
Investigators say the motorcyclist, identified as 27-year-old Patrick Wafer of Broussard, was traveling south on N. Bernard at a high rate of speed and the driver of the tractor trailer, 44-year-old Chris Johnson of Lafayette, was traveling north, making a left turn into the driveway of the company it belongs to. Police say Wafer impacted the rear of the trailer and was ejected from the motorcycle, where he was pronounced dead.
Johnson was found to be in violation of failure to yield while making a left turn. Wafer was wearing a helmet at the time of impact. Alcohol is not suspected at this time but toxicology reports are pending.
