Geraldine Jones is the mother of Akeam Daniels, who allegedly shot his 8-year old brother Wayne Jones. The mother says the shooting was an accident, and her son didn't mean to shoot his younger brother. "He would rather hurt himself than to hurt his family," says Jones.
The mother says she wrestled with Daniels in the front yard when Wayne ran between the two of them. She says the gun accidentally went off and hit Wayne in the stomach. Jones says, "Every now and then I flash back in my mind about my baby getting shot." Jones says that if she believed her son was guilty she would do something about it. "If he would deliberately shot my baby I would of pressed charges on him myself."
When Jones realized Wayne was hurt, she held him in her arms until paramedics could get to him. "He was saying mama pray for me, mama pray for me. He was asking me to pray for him," says Jones.
Jones believes her son will pull through, because she's strong, and believes in god. She say's Daniels ran because he had a warrant, but Iberia Parish Sheriffs office says there were no prior outstanding warrants on Daniels.
The boy is recovering in a Baton Rouge hospital, and is expected to make a full recovery. The Iberia Sheriffs Department are still searching for Daniels in connection with the shooting.
