The pedestrian struck by an accused drunk driver this weekend in downtown Lafayette remains in critical condition.
23 year old Eddie Dubois is suffering from severe brain injuries and has been in and out of a coma.
"This is my worst nightmare," said Eddie's mom Kathy, who has been by her son's side since early Saturday morning.
As Eddie fights for his life, Kathy says he is a hero. Moments before he was hit, she said he pushed a friend out of the path of the car.
"I'm so proud of him," said Kathy. "Eddie saved him, but in the process I don't know what's going to happen, how [Eddie] is going to be."
Police arrested the driver of the car, 32 year old Saul Marinoni of Lafayette, charging him with first offense OWI and vehicular negligent injury. Marinoni is due in court Friday morning.
As for Eddie Dubois, family members say his prognosis is unknown. His mother vows to be with her son every step of the way.
"I will not leave, until he's up and walking and can walk away with me," she said.
