Mother's bond reduced to $40,000

The Rayne mother whose children died in a house fire has been released from jail on a $40,000 bond. An Acadia Parish Grand Jury indicted 26-year-old Shaqueta McDade on four counts of second degree murder on May 1st.

Her children were left home alone while she was at a bar in Church Point, according to Rayne Police. McDade's oldest child, an 10-year-old boy was not home, but Jamari Mcdade, 8, Amous Mouton Jr., 7, Lashay Mcdade, 5, and Brian Steiner, 2, were home when the fire broke out. Acadia Parish Coroner Dr. Mark Dawson determined they died from smoke inhalation.

McDade's bond was set at $1 million bail but a bond reduction hearing reduced it to $40,000, according to authorities in Acadia Parish.
