OAK RIDGE, La. (AP) - State police say three children were
rescued but their mother was killed after a car left La. Highway 134 and landed partially submerged in a bayou.
The accident happened Thursday near the East Carroll-West Carroll parish line west of Oak Ridge.
Trooper Robert Patrick said a car driven by 35-year-old Alecia Wilson of Monroe ran off the road, struck two trees and traveled down a steep embankment before it overturned in Bayou Macon. Wilson was pronounced dead at the scene.
Patrick said a 3-year-old child was rescued from the partially submerged vehicle.
Two other children, a 12-year-old female and a 6-year-old male, escaped from the car and were located in good condition on the bank of the bayou.
