A Cankton mother and her boyfriend have been arrested and charged with principle to cruelty to a juvenile and cruelty to a juvenile, respectively.
The boyfriend, Christopher Minix, 28, is accused of beating 30-year-old Iyabo Segun's son with an extension cord. St. Landry Parish Sheriff's investigators were called to a Lafayette school on Thursday, June 14 after a social worker noticed the 10-year-old boy had been possibly abused. "Investigators from the Juvenile Section responded to the school and observed this young child had been severely beaten with an extension cord from the top of his body down to his legs. The Office of Child Services was also called in," said Sheriff Bobby Guidroz. "Upon interviewing the child it was learned that Segun's boyfriend Christopher Minix had whipped him with an extension cord on Wednesday." The child was placed into the custody of the Office of Child Services.
