Mother Arrested, Charged with Child Desertion

A Bayou Vista woman is in the St. Mary Parish jail after she allegedly left her three young children home alone while officials say she went to purchase diapers at a store. Nicole Swackhamer is charged with child desertion. Sheriff's deputies say they found Swackhamer's three children-- who are between the ages of two and seven--unsupervised along a road near their home. Investigators say Swackhamer's reasoning for leaving the children at home was the cold weather. She is being held without bond.
