Mossville residents question Sasol program

MOSSVILLE, La. (AP) - A South African energy company is ready to buy homes in the Mossville area, but homeowners say they want questions answered first.

Sasol Ltd. plans a $14.5 billion complex near Lake Charles to turn natural gas into chemicals and fuels. The site includes land in Mossville and Brentwood where homes now stand.

The American Press reports that a 76-year-old woman balked at Sasol's statement that prices won't be negotiated. She says everything should be negotiable.

Another woman says there's oil under her property, and she wants either a higher price or a mineral lease.

Community Interaction Consulting president John Mitchell says it's probably the most generous buyout program his company has ever administered. He says Sasol will respond to written questions.
