Morgan City Port Captain Issues Temporary Emergency Vessel Movement Controls

Based on information provided by the National Weather Service, Vessel Traffic Service(VTS) Berwick Bay anticipates the Atchafalaya River Gauge in Morgan City may reach 5.5 feet by May 12, 2013. The Captain of the Port Morgan City will implement Temporary Emergency Vessel Movement Controls(TEVMC) for Berwick Bay when the river gauge reaches 5.0 feet.

"We haven't seen water levels rise to the extent they have further north, but we expect that to change in the next couple of weeks. With good planning and prudent decision making, we can work together to get through this year's high-water season safely," according to Director, Vessel Traffic Service LT Jay Michalczak.
