Stephensville- Today, Louisiana State Police Troop I investigated a two vehicle crash involving a motorcycle on LA 997 in Stephensville. The crash claimed the life of a Morgan City man.
According to investigating troopers, on October 31, 2010, at 3:55 p.m., 19-year-old Blake Mayon of Morgan City, LA, was driving a 1995 Harley Davidson motorcycle north on LA 997. A 2001 Ford van driven by 63-year-old Ronald Dupree of Plaquemine, LA, was traveling south on LA 997. As Mayon was entering a right curve, his motorcycle turned over on its left side. The motorcycle continued to skid across the centerline and into the path of Dupree's vehicle. Dupree's vehicle struck the motorcycle, and traveled into a ditch on the west side of the road.
Dupree was not injured in the crash. Mayon died at the scene as a result of his injuries. He was pronounced dead by the St. Martin Parish Coroner. Routine toxicology samples are pending for both drivers at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab. The crash remains under investigation.
This is the 54th fatal crash and the 59th fatality Troop I has investigated in 2010.
