The following were arrested by the Morgan City Police Department during the last reporting period beginning 01/02/2014:
1. Nikita Smith, 28 years of age, Address-Dora St. Morgan City, La. was arrested on 01/02/2014 @ 9:49am
Charge: Warrant for Theft Over $500
Officers were dispatched to an address on Wren St. in Morgan City where officers came into contact with Nikita Smith. A warrant check was done and it was found that Smith had a warrant for his arrest. Smith was placed under arrest and transported to the Morgan City Police Department where he was booked and incarcerated.
According to the affidavit for arrest it is alleged that Nakita Smith was employed by a local offshore company where he submitted time and was paid for work that he did not perform.
2. David Thames, 42 years of age, Address- St. Amant, La. was arrested on 01/02/2014 @ 2:18pm
Charge: Theft over $500
Officers of the Morgan City Police Department traveled to Ascension Parish where they took custody of Thames on an outstanding warrant. Thames was transported back to Morgan City Police Department where he was booked and incarcerated.
According to the affidavit for arrest it is alleged that David Thames committed a theft of a Laptop computer in February of 2013.
3. Dwayne August, 17 years of age, Address-Mallard St. Morgan City, La. was arrested on 01/02/2014 @ 9:10pm.
Charge: Unauthorized Entry of an Inhabited Dwelling
Officers of the Morgan City Police Department were dispatched to an address on Elm St. in regards to a subject trying to make entry into a residence. Upon officers arrival they were given a description of a black male wearing a black jacket and a gray hoodie type sweatshirt that left walking prior to officers arrival. Officers searched the area and located August in the area. August was detained and advised of his rights per Miranda. During the course of the investigation August stated to officers that he did in fact go to the residence in an attempt to go in and steal a video game. August was positively identified by the homeowner as the suspect that was at the residence. Officers got a statement from the homeowner. The home owner advised that they heard someone rattling the front door knob of the residence and then the doorbell rang. Upon opening the door the homeowner observed August . When asked if they could help him with anything August would not answer. Homeowner then attempted to close the door at which time August placed his feet inside of the door frame in an attempt to keep the door open. It was then that the homeowner had to forcefully push August out of the residence to close and lock the door at which time they called the police. August was placed under arrest and transported to the Morgan City Police Department where he was booked and incarcerated.
4. Jordan Vidos, 28 years of age, Address-Fourth St. Morgan City, La. was arrested on 01/02/2014 @ 10:43pm.
Charge: Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (2nd Offense); and a Warrant for Terrorizing
On January 02nd, 2014 investigators with the Morgan City Police Department along with assistance with the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office executed a search warrant at an address on Fourth St. in Morgan City. The search warrant was obtained based on an ongoing investigation where Suspect Jordan Vidos was making specific threats of committing great bodily harm to personnel of the Morgan City Police Department over a social media web page. During the course of the investigation it was found that Vidos was making threats that he was going to kill police officers. With this information the Morgan City Police Department contacted the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office for assistance. Due to the violent nature of the threats the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office utilized their "SRT" team to make entry into the residence. Upon execution of the Search Warrant the Morgan City Police Department Investigation unit conducted a search of the residence at which time a pipe commonly used to smoke narcotics was located and seized along with other forms of electronic devices that will be analyzed for evidence. Vidos was arrested and transported to the Morgan City Police Department where he is being held on a $200,000.00 bond.
5. Mikel Ashley 43 years of age, Address- Franklin, La. was arrested on 01/03/2014 @ 04:41am.
Charges: Operating a Clandestine Laboratory for the Unlawful Manufacture of CDS (Methamphetamine)
Operating a Clandestine lab within a 1000 feet of School Property, Possession with Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Resisting an Officer and Warrants for Failure to Appear for St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office and St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office deputies of the Morgan City Police Department were made aware that Mikel Ashley was staying at a local motel and that he was wanted on outstanding warrants. Officers went to the location where they made contact with Ashley. Upon making contact Ashley attempted to run to the back of the room to elude officers. Officers forced their way into the room and Ashley was taken into custody in the bathroom area. Upon securing Ashley officers located in plain view, items that were determined to be an active Clandestine Lab. Officers secured the room and applied for a search warrant. Upon searching the room officers located Suspected Methamphetamine along with other forms of paraphernalia. Upon questioning Ashley he advised officers that he was making methamphetamine with the intent of selling the narcotics. Upon completion of the investigation Ashley was transported to the Morgan City Police Department where he was booked and incarcerated with no bond set at this time. The clandestine laboratory was dismantled and all properties were disposed of by a Hazardous Waste Disposal Unit.
