On Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at 4:35 pm the Mire Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a residential fire located at 158 Shield Rd in Mire. Upon arrival at 4:41 pm, firefighters encountered a working fire in a mobile home structure.

Firefighters worked to quickly extinguish the fire which caused significant fire damage to the front porch, spare bedroom, and part of the living room area. The rest of the residence sustained minor smoke and water damage.

All occupants of the residence were able to exit safely prior to the arrival of firefighters. Firefighters located and safely removed three small dogs from the residence during the course of extinguishing the fire.

After investigation, it was determined that the fire was caused by a discarded cigarette that landed on a combustible material on the porch area and was ruled accidental.

The Mire Volunteer Fire Department was assisted on scene by Branch Volunteer Fire Department, Richard Volunteer Fire Department, Duson Volunteer Fire Department, Acadian Ambulance, Slemco and Acadia Parish Sheriff's Office.

No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported.
