BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - More cuts are coming at LSU.
The university announced Wednesday it plans to cut dollars from the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine and transfer funding of the Cox Academic Center for Student Athletes from the university to the athletic department.
The budget axing is in response to a $108 million state budget deficit for the fiscal year that ended June 30.
Additionally, university officials are preparing to lay off about 50 workers from the LSU Agricultural Center and keeping shuttered the top two floors of the Pennington Biomedical Research Center's new clinical research building.
The Advocate reports the flagship LSU campus in Baton Rouge learned Monday that its expected share of cuts had risen to $5.14 million, which is 3.7 percent of its state general funds.
