MONROE, La. (AP) - The city of Monroe is pursuing about $9 million in upgrades to its 18 storm water pump stations, with major improvements to be completed at eight of them.
Charles Westrom, the city's sewer manager, tells The News-Star specific projects are planned for those eight pump stations, and two projects - the addition of backup generators and installation of a supervisory control system - will benefit all pump stations.
Westrom says the city has been working on these improvements for years, but it's been an ongoing process.
He says the city is using about $800,000 in capital funds to replace all three engines at the Rochelle Pump station.
Westrom says the new engines are expected to be delivered in about 21 weeks.
