MONROE, La. (AP) - Monroe Mayor Jamie Mayo has vetoed four ordinances the Monroe City Council approved July 9.
The News-Star reports the ordinances will return to the city council to give council members an opportunity to override Mayo's veto. To override the mayor's veto, the council would need a two-thirds vote.
Two ordinances deal with the Interstate 20 Economic Development Commission. One limits the mayor's authority to remove directors from the Interstate 20 Economic Development Commission's board of directors. The other was an ordinance to limit the authority of the I-20 board to conduct closed meetings.
Mayo said Monday he vetoed these ordinances because the city council doesn't have jurisdiction over the I-20 board.
